FAQ Renovation and Education Levy

The Renovation and Education Levy is a £1.50 per ticket charge that helps us look after YMCA Theatre and keep our education programmes running. Every ticket sold contributes directly to maintaining and improving the venue, as well as supporting activities that give local people opportunities to learn, perform and get involved in the arts.

YMCA Theatre is operated by YMCA Yorkshire Coast, a registered charity (No. 250527).

Running a theatre and delivering community education programmes costs more than most people realise. For many events, especially those where the venue is hired by an external organiser, we don’t receive any share of the ticket sales. The Renovation and Education Levy is one of the only guaranteed contributions that helps us maintain and improve the building, keep it safe and welcoming, and continue offering creative and educational opportunities for local people.

It’s a simple way for every ticket sold to make a real difference to both the venue and the community it serves.

No – the £1.50 per ticket Renovation and Education Levy is applied to all tickets, except for complimentary tickets. This way, every paying ticket helps support the upkeep of YMCA Theatre and our community education programmes.

We used to have a cap on the levy fee but that has now been removed
